FAMILY HOME EVENING
My family and I set a side one night of the week to learn about Gospel Principles together. IT IS SO MUCH FUN! We have ours on Monday nights. Tonight Rowena has the lesson and Brook will make some yummy treats. We sing songs and play games together. Some of the things that have made our Family Nights a success is to make it fun for the kids and sometimes with the younger ones we need to keep it shorter.
So last Monday this is how our FHE ( abbrivated for Family Home Evening) went:
OPENING PRAYER by Brook
OPENING SONG : "Kindness Begins with Me" (childrens songbook, pg. 145)
Courtney lead the song for us
LESSON: Kindness given by mom
ACTIVITY: Writing and Picture drawing in our FHE journals
SONG: Popcorn Popping lead by Brook
CLOSING PRAYER: By Courtney and mimicked by Mackenzie
TREATS: Banana bars with cream cheese frosting, YUMMY!
So thats an example of our FHE. I really cherish this time with my kids and my favorite lessons are when Rowena and Brook give them. We rotate whos turn it is to do lesson, prayers, treats. That way it gives each family member a turn to participate.
I know my girls really enjoy FHE and we have tried to make it fun for them. We enjoy doing activites together too, so sometimes we will go for a drive and have a lesson in the car and then stop for a cheap ice cream cone. Sometimes we go for family walks when the weather is nice out and then talk about what is on the girls minds or if they have questions about something.
I'm thankful for this time we spend together as a family. I enjoy teaching my girls gospel principles and virtues to live by. I enjoy the lessons the girls come up with on their own and their creativity. I know I have a testimony of FHE and I glad we do this together in our home.
Some ideas for lessons:

Also you can go to www.deseretbook.com and sign up for their FHE lessons and then they email a new lesson for each week. Each lesson emailed comes with songs and treat ideas.
So gather your family together tonight and enjoy sometime together and remember always keep it fun for the kids.
* Today I went and registered Courtney for kindergarten. I can't believe she will start school this July. And while sitting their waiting for my #101 to be called I noticed her birthday is wrong on her birth certificate. So now I have to call the State of Oregon and see what I have to do to get it corrected. I asked if they would except the crib card and wrist band because it has the right birthdate on those just so they would have her correct birthday on their records and they said "NO" they need only a birth certificate. So the school records show Nov. 5th as her b-day and it should be NOV. 4th!!! So I need to go and make a phone call. Hope everyone has a wonderful week with their families.

What a pain to have to fix the birth certificate!!! I hope it goes well! I love FHE, too!
Good luck getting it fixed! My husband's name was misspelled on my oldest daughter's birth certificate and we had to sue each other in order to get a court order to have it fixed because Oklahoma doesn't have a way to amend birth certificates without a court order!
